In a world often bustling with activities catering to the young, it's easy to overlook the quiet dignity and wisdom of our elders. Yet, in the heart of a volunteer movement known as V The Volunteers (VTVO), a realization dawned in 2017: the need to celebrate and uplift senior citizens through an event coined as Hiriyara Jaatre, or the Elders Fest.
The journey towards Hiriyara Jaatre was not instantaneous but a culmination of years of dedication and compassion. VTVO, established in 2012, initially focused on volunteering for children. However, in 2014, the volunteers turned their attention towards the often-overlooked demographic of senior citizens residing in old age homes. With each passing year, the desire to do something more profound for these elders grew stronger, leading to the inception of Hiriyara Jaatre in 2017.
At its core, Hiriyara Jaatre is about bringing joy and laughter into the lives of senior citizens. For many of these elders, their days follow a monotonous routine of meals, television, and idle conversations with peers. When asked if they would like to partake in fun activities outside of their homes, their immediate response was a resounding yes. This fest provides them with an opportunity to break free from the mundane and showcase their talents, many of which have remained dormant for years.
The impact of Hiriyara Jaatre extends far beyond the duration of the event itself. For these elders, winning a medal or trophy in the one-minute games isn't just a moment of accomplishment; it's a cherished treasure that they proudly display long after the fest has ended. These tokens serve as tangible reminders of a day filled with laughter, camaraderie, and a sense of belonging.
Yet, perhaps the most significant aspect of Hiriyara Jaatre lies in the way the elders are treated by the volunteers. From the moment they arrive, they are greeted with warmth and respect, treated as esteemed guests deserving of royal treatment. Volunteers go above and beyond to ensure that the elders feel valued and appreciated, encouraging them to participate wholeheartedly and cheering them on every step of the way.
In essence, the purpose of Hiriyara Jaatre transcends mere entertainment; it's about fostering a sense of belonging, dignity, and joy in the lives of senior citizens. It's about reaffirming their worth and reminding them that they are an integral part of our community deserving of love and admiration. As we continue this noble endeavor, let us remember that in celebrating our elders, we enrich not only their lives but also our own. Let us cherish the wisdom they impart and the lessons they teach, for they are the pillars of our society.
This entire event is run by volunteers; no one works here or gets paid. Volunteers undertake various tasks, from fundraising to serving food, organizing games, managing the venue, coordinating transportation, and more. Their dedication and selflessness are the driving force behind the success of Hiriyara Jaatre. Each volunteer contributes their time and effort out of sheer passion for making a difference in the lives of senior citizens, embodying the spirit of community and service that lies at the heart of this event.
To continue spreading joy and making a difference in the lives of our elders, we invite those reading this to join us as volunteers. Your contribution, whether big or small, can make a significant impact and bring smiles to the faces of our beloved seniors. Let's come together to celebrate and honor the remarkable individuals who have shaped our world with their wisdom and experience. Register @ https://bit.ly/hj2024
